Introducing the BlackBerry Q10

BlackBerry recently announced the availability of the new BlackBerry Q10 in the country. It is the first Blackberry 10 smartphone with the classic QWERTY keyboard re-engineered but still retaining the signature design. The back of the smartphone features a glass-weave material that is stronger than plastic and is contoured in such a way that laying it constantly on the table won’t scratch the back.

Combine these: the QWERTY keyboard, glass-weave back surface, a stunning touchscreen display and the Blackberry 10 platform, it is definitely an elegant and ergonomic smartphone. The Q10 will be available in two colors – black and white, starting tomorrow, June 7, from authorized carriers and retailers in the country.

Other things that caught my attention about this smartphone:

  • It is powered by a 1.5Ghz Cortex-A9 dual-core processor

  • It has a 2100 mAh Li-ion battery

  • It has a 3.1-inch OLED touch display having a resolution of 720×720 px. It’s a pretty wide, rich screen

  • The rear camera is 8mpx and the front camera is 2mpx. Useful for when you Skype your contacts (more on that later!). It also has 1080p HD video recording

  • It has an internal storage of 16gb, expandable up to 64gb via microSD

The BlackBerry Q10 comes preloaded with the BlackBerry 10.1 OS. Here are some of the highlights of the BB 10.1 platform:

  • Blackberry Hub can manage all of your conversations, be it emails that are attached to another email or contact suggestions when you compose a message. You’re always one swipe away from everything that matters to you.

  • You can now get personalized notifications for your contacts and your accounts. Customize your ringtones and vibrations for calls and messages from each of your contacts. You can also set up a different notification for your email accounts and other social media accounts.

  • Better cursor control for more accuracy in placing the cursor and selecting text.

  • HDR (High Dynamic Range) shooting mode is now available when taking pictures in tricky lighting conditions.

  • Blackberry Balance technology, which separates and secures work applications and data from personal content. It is still a business phone after all.

  • BBM now lets you include voice calling and view chat, and lets you share your screen with other Blackberry 10 smartphone contacts!

  • Remote Folder Access lets you view and download content (music, video, pictures, documents) from your workstation to your Blackberry 10 device. This works over the local network and your wireless network. All you need to do is to have the latest OS 10.1 running and Blackberry Link v1.1 installed on your workstation.

  • Skype for Blackberry now runs with the new Blackberry 10.1 platform! You can visit http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/26382880/?countrycode=CA for more information. The Skype blog also has information about this app – http://wp.me/p2q6gy-dEa.
