Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes Announced, Gameplay Video

Gaming god Hideo Kojima recently announced Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes at his first ever appearance at the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the series with his fans. This latest MGS installment is confirmed on the PS3 and Xbox 360 gaming consoles but was running at the event on a PC.

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is Kojima’s “prologue” to Metal Gear Solid 5 (let’s not forget about Metal Gear Solid: Revengeance. Basically that sums up that there are three MGS games floating right now). We don’t know much about the game’s story yet, but one thing’s for sure: Big Boss is getting old.

Here’s the Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes demo at PAX with Kojima himself:

The game’s graphics are awesome. In fact, some people are saying that it’s too awesome for current gen consoles and that Kojima should save it up for the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox 720.

At this early in the game’s announcement, conspiracy theories from die-hard MGS fans were kicking in. Observant fanatics are suggesting that Chico, the young kid from MGS: Peace Walker, is not the same Chico in MGS: Ground Zeroes as he hasn’t aged and that it’s impossible for him to still be a kid at this point. Others followed by saying that Kojima was notorious for “testing” his fans, even though he said himself that it was, in fact, Chico in the game. That and many more will surely unfold when the game gets released.

Another point of interest in the game is Snake’s ability to call in land and and air reinforcement for cover fire and for mission extraction without alerting the AI, the latter much to our surprise.

Kojima also talked about the engine that was running MGS:GZ, the Fox Engine. Acknowledging god-tier engines (e.g. CryEngine, Unreal Engine), he said that he wanted to get things going themselves and that in can be used to create the next generation of FPS games, an Uncharted 4, or the next Silent Hill.

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes’ release date is still TBA.

‘Till my next installment.
